RS PRO Silicone Impregnated Expandable Braided Fibreglass Cable Sleeving

From RS PRO a high quality highly flexible expandable braided glass cable sleeving impregnated with a silicone varnish. This highly resilient cable sleeving has high-temperature capabilities and is self-extinguishing and LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) which means it does not release dangerous gasses when it burns. These unique qualities make this braided cable sleeve ideal for use in electrical insulation applications where there are high operating temperatures. Electrical wires and cables are simply routed through the sleeve and the flexible construction of the sleeve expands to accommodate a wide range of cable diameters.

What is Expandable Braided Sleeving?

Expandable braided cable sleeving is used as an alternative to heatshrink tubing. The difference between expandable cable sleeving and heat-shrink tubing is that expandable sleeving doesn't require any heating making it convenient, cost-effective and easy to use. The open weave braiding of this cable sleeving simply expands over the cables and components and contracts to provide a tight-fitting cover. The open weave of the sleeve also allows you to examine the wires underneath. Braided sleeving protects wires and cables from damage caused by abrasion from sharp edges, high impacts, and vibration. Cable sleeving, depending on the material used, also gives the cable protection from chemicals and solvents.

Features and Benefits

• Excellent high temperature resistance
• Expandable and versatile, ideal for wire harness assemblies
• LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen)
• Self Extinguishing
• Highly flexible
• Excellent resistance to solvents
• Good fray resistance when it is cut
• High oxygen index of 64.5%
• Compatible with most impregnating varnish systems

Where is Braided Glass Fibre Cable Sleeving Used?

This braided cable sleeving is lightweight and flexible and provides a protective covering and insulation for electrical wires, cables and flexible conduit and can also be used as a cable management sleeve to keep your wires tidy. The unique thermal properties and high temperature protection that this braided sleeve offers make it ideal for use in areas where low fire hazard properties are required. These areas include public places where it is often used for mass transit cable protection and underground applications. This cable sleeve can also be used in high temperature rated domestic appliances and for wire harness in the automobile industry.

Applications

• Mass transit cable protection
• Rail Harnessing - EN45545 Approved
• Rail Tunnel applications
• Exhaust assemblies and system components
• Automobile wire harnessing
• Heating appliances and central heating boilers.

How Do You Install Expandable Braided Cable Sleeving?

For a tight fit choose a cable sleeving diameter that is a smaller size than your application. For a more flexible fit select a cable sleeve diameter that is the same size or slightly larger than your application, this will ensure that the application is able to smoothly and easily move such as a bundle of wires. Once the correct cable sleeving size is selected you will need to cut the sleeve to the correct length. If the sleeve is not cut correctly it can fray. To prevent fraying use a hot cutting tool such as a hot knife or a soldering iron with a sharp tip. Slice the braid using even pressure to leave an evenly sealed edge on the material. While the end is cooling you can flare it using a small cone-shaped object to hold it open. Once the sleeve is cut to size simply push and slide the sleeve into place over the cable or fittings.

Warning

Dust or broken particles from this glass fibre sleeving can cause irritation to sensitive skin therefore care must be taken to minimise dust formation when handling or cutting.
