Product details

OSRAM OSLUX Series IR LEDs

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors' SFH 4780S forms part of the IR OSLUX family. The SFH 4780S has been designed for use in Biometric applications, for example iris recognition in mobile devices. Their compact package also makes them suitable for these applications as space is limited. The SFH 4780S IR LED’s black package enables the user to integrate it discretely into mobile devices.
With a very narrow emission angle at a low height, the IR OSLUX devices provide optimum performance. This is made possible by the lens matching to the internal reflector. The IR OSLUX LEDs are flat top devices, despite the use of a lens. Their compact package also enables the SFH 4780S to offer a very high performance-to-size ratio for energy saving designs.

Features of the SFH 4780S IR LED:
IR OSLUX family
Compact black package
Typical radiant intensity: 2900 mW/sr @ 1A
Narrow emission angle: 10°
Low height: 2.4 mm

IR OSLUX for Biometric Identification

Biometric identification is becoming increasingly popular within mobile devices, particularly for sensitive applications such as online banking. This type of identification offers a secure method of unlocking mobile devices, offering protection against unwanted access. It also offers a reliable alternative to fingerprint scans as fingerprints change throughout a person’s lifetime.
When the eye is illuminated with IR light and a camera takes a picture of the iris, its characteristic features, which are unique for every person, can be identified. The IR OSLUX SFH 4780S IR LED offers a wavelength of 810nm. This falls between the 760-850nm required for iris scanners and is suitable for capturing great results for all eye colours. Current iris scanner designs require multiple IR LEDs. The SFH 4780S enables the user to create a design using just one compact IR emitter.
